School Sweet Spots ™ – Making the Right School Connections Each secondary school serves a select group of elementary schools within carefully defined (but difficult to locate and changing) areas or boundaries (a.k.a catchment areas). Parents must check the boundaries before making any final decisions on selection of their homes and or schools. You can use the School District websites to do this. We will do this on request for our real estate clients. In any case, our reports will greatly simplify your selection process by giving you the big picture quickly and easily. Then you can get into more detail as you please (and as you should to further define the perfect school for your children). We help our clients with this part as well if they wish. A Sweet Spot is a rare combination of a good quality elementary school connected to a good quality high school. They are very rare combinatons Sample Report - Toronto Sweet Spots and Connections The sample report illustrates how you would see in your purchased reports the areas that have Sweet Spots with highly rated high school and elementary school combinations. For example,There is only 86 out of 478 elementary schools (18%) that are sweet spots in all of Toronto District Public School Board. This is a bit less than 1 in 5. Alternatives Not all areas have Sweet Spots but there are usually alternatives if you must (or already do) live in these areas. For instance, you can apply to the school board to attend a school outside your served area where you might be accommodated after students from the area are assigned seats and they are still “open” to applications for that school. C.D. Howe Institute Percentiles are shown in our reports and parents are cautioned to look carefully at schools with very low percentiles for either Grade 3 or Grade 6, eg; below 20% regardless of the Pass Rates.
There are 101 out of 160 primary public schools (63%) that are in Sweet Spots in all of York Region. That is almost 2 out of 3. Sweet Spots are hard to find without these reports.
